This video of Earth without ice will change how you think about climate change
More under this adA lot of studies have confirmed that the Earth is losing more ground because of all the ice that is melting year by year. But what would our planet look like if all the ice melted? The consequences would without a doubt be disastrous.
The National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC) has published some worrying information and data that shows the surface of the ice in the oceans has never been so low. According to their measurements, the surface area could actually have reduced to 14.54 million square kilometres in February, which is a figure that is well below the average recorded between 1981 and 2010 which was estimated at 15.64 million km2.

So far, the previous minimum was in 2011, when the surface area was 14.67 million km2. More worrying still, the maximum could have been 15 days earlier than the average estimated between March 1981 and 12th March 2010. The NSICD explains that these changes, in particular, are due to higher temperaturesin the arctic areas.

We can also see that we would need to review our maps and our geography because cities such as Miami or Calcutta would actually end up in the middle of the ocean…
This video is not the first to show what a world with higher water levels would look like; J.G. Ballard wrote The Drowned World in 1962, well before the knowledge of climate change had entered the public consciousness...
