Another person commented:
Now I see why yall always say the ice cream machine is broken.
Is the ice cream machine really broken?
No matter where in the world you are, you will have no doubt experienced the absolute disappointment upon going to McDonald’s and being told that the ice cream machine is broken. The heartbreaking phenomenon has even been the inspiration behind apps which track what stores are actually dishing out the soft-serve on any given day.

Joining the fast-food secrets movement, another person spoke out a few months ago revealing that often staff are just too lazy to clean out the machine. They addressed the issue over Twitter stating:
Btw, I used to work in McDonald's. The ice cream machine was never broke, it just takes three hours to clean so we used to say it was broke so we didn't have to serve you lot. Cheers.More under this adMore under this ad
Another person seconded the statement saying:
As an ex-McDonald's employee, the ice cream machine was always working it just took too long to clean it so we used to tell everyone it was broken hahaha.
Many questioned why staff don’t just admit the machine needs cleaning. The commenter revealed that in this situation customers just won’t take no for an answer:

It seems that McDonald’s themselves even weighed in, clarifying ‘shake and soft-serve ice cream machines undergo heat treatment cycles every 24 hrs. They're disassembled, sanitized and cleaned every 14 days. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.’
