Soon to be husband left shocked after discovering wife's 'family sex tradition'

Imagine, life is all going well and dandy, you have a beautiful partner and you're about to get married but her family keeps talking about watching you get down to business. This is what happened to one internet user who turned to Reddit to divulge his soon to be family's shocking traditions.

He turned to Reddit for advice

The anonymous man prefaced the post by stating that despite some disturbing requests he would still like to marry his fiancée. He divulged by stating that his future wife has quite a large, loud family who is very close, something that he would have to get used to. But, there's a fine line between close and downright creepy. He stated:

Something weird I've noticed since we got engaged is that my GF's cousins sometimes make jokes about our wedding night. It's weird for them to joke about it since I'm pretty sure her family is aware we've slept together before since we share a bed at holiday gatherings and vacations.

You may think that this would be just a little jest on the cousin's part... after all, cousins are the best friends we're born with. However, the anonymous poster described the night his wife sat him down to make a weird request:

A few nights ago we were discussing wedding plans and thinking about places to go on our honeymoon (if COVID-19 clears up and we can travel by then). My GF and I were brainstorming ideas when she tells me that we won't need a bridal suite right away. Obviously I ask why (we're getting married at a pretty nice hotel) and she says that she'd like for us to stay at her parent's house.

Anyone's worst nightmare would be to stay at their in-laws on their wedding night, in fact, many even fly halfway across the world to a nice beach to get some alone time, because we all know what goes on post reception. The man continues:

I don't really mind this—we're trying to save money for a house deposit anyway—but GF seems like she has more to say so I push for why she wants it. She tells me that there's a really old tradition in her family on the wedding night.

Then, the concerned fiancee describes a 'tradition' that would send anyone running out the door:

The husband and wife go into the master bedroom together and they are supposed to 'consummate' the marriage. The rest of the family are waiting outside the door so they can applaud them and cheer when they come out. Then a piece of the bed sheet is cut off and sewn into a big tapestry my GF's mother owns.

Tradition or intrusion?

Not only does the whole family want to listen in to the couple 'declaring their love' but the mother wants to cut up the sheets to add to her sex blanket.

The man did stand his ground and told his partner that he wasn't comfortable with great aunt Jan listening in from the other side... after all she might have a heart attack.

One commenter even mentioned that the master bedroom is most often the parent's room. Now imagine consummating your marriage on your in-law's bed while they listen in.

Despite his hesitation, the girlfriend claimed that they could just pretend, but still, who does that? Apparently, the mother-in-law was dead serious about the bizarre tradition:

I think she's also been texting her family about this because I received a text from her mother telling me that I 'don't understand the importance of family' and tradition yet and this kind of tradition has been around longer than I've been alive.

Looking for advice the man was instead met with joke upon joke:

Surprisingly the strange antics are remnants of a very old tradition that was widely practised all over the world as proof that the bride was 'pure.' But some traditions are better off dead.
