You’re not a beer tap, your pee is not supposed to look so frothy.

If you’ve ever been in a rush to pee and you release all of your fluid in one big forceful stream, then it’s normal to see a little bit of frothing. It’s because of the pressure and speed in which you’re urinating in. In some cases, residual chemicals from cleaning products can also make your pee look foamy. However, if you’ve been seeing bubbly urine in your toilet more often than usual, it might be a sign of a bigger problem.

Dehydration

Naturally, your pee is always letting you know when you should be drinking more water. If you’re not getting your eight cups of water a day, your pee will be frothy, smelly, and it’ll look like you've flat out poured a whole pint of beer down your toilet

The solution to this health dilemma is usually quite straightforward. Just drink the doctor-recommended amount of water. You’ll know that you’ve sufficiently hydrated your body when your pee is either clear or a pale yellow colour.

However, the problem might be a bit more serious if you’re seeing foamy pee on a regular basis despite drinking a litre of water a day.

Kidney disease

Seeing your pee froth up when it hits the water in your toilet bowl should not be an everyday thing. If it is, it might be because your body is expelling proteins through your urine. Normally a fully functional kidney is supposed to filter proteins in the blood and this process stops large amounts of proteins from getting into the urine. Hence, having consistently foamy pee could indicate that your kidney has been damaged and its not carrying out its function of filtration. This phenomenon is called proteinuria.

Foamy pee is not the only symptom of this condition, so you should watch out for other signs including itchy skin, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, frequent urination, and swelling.
