The Poughkeepsie Tapes waited 9 long years to see the light of day in the form of physical release. Banned from theatres in 2009, this horror film was only shown at a few festivals. Audience reactions were unanimous - the film was almost entirely unbearable to watch due to how disturbing it is.

The story is inspired by Kendall Francois, a real-life serial killer who murdered eight women in Poughkeepsie. The film is shot as a fake documentary that follows a New York State police unit tracking a serial killer. But they make a shocking discovery. They find 800 cassettes documenting each of the murders, kidnappings, tortures and other horrific crimes of which the man is guilty. In the film, the audience bear witness to a decade of massacres.
